I have an essay called “Eight Modern Mysteries of the Alaska Interior” in The Iowa Review 53.2 (Fall 2023 issue). As always, very glad for the editors who improve my work and help to share it with readers!
Solstice Poetry Cycle
As Director of the Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series, I’ll be hosting the Solstice Poetry Cycle on January 19, 2024 on the UAF campus. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner featured a story by David James that describes the event. It will be a lot of fun, and you can go in person or join on Zoom.
I’m on LinkedIn now. Why the heck not, I figured. We can be connections if you want.
Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series
With this academic year, I begin as Director of UAF’s Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series. It’s a long, storied program—it goes back all the way to the 1970s—and I’m excited to be its next steward. Talk to me if you have ideas.
Interview on WSR blog
I have a five-question interview up at the Water~Stone Review blog. Just go ahead and read it, it only takes a couple minutes.
Review of The Nature Book
I reviewed The Nature Book by Tom Comitta for Star Tribune. It’s a wonderful book and a fascinating project. In my review, I say it’s “an epic journey—visual, textural, and musical—that illustrates the vastness of our environment.”
#AWP23
On March 8–11, 2023, I’ll be hanging around the AWP Conference in Seattle. I’m taking part in a Water~Stone Review off-site reading, and I’ll be staffing the book fair at different times with Santa Fe Writers Project (booth #1202) and the University of Alaska Press (booth #1307). More info nearer the date on my social media. Buy my book or sell me yours, let’s grab a coffee, compare tote bags, gossip about our mutual friends.
Amazon Kindle Daily Deal
On January 2, 2023, Golden Heart Parade will be the Amazon Kindle Daily Deal, meaning you can get the ebook for $1.99. If you pick it up as an ebook, you can still request a free bookplate, and I’ll mail you a sticker and magnet as well. Thanks for supporting the book—I’m proud of it and eager to share!
Essay in Water~Stone Review
I have a brief essay in the newest issue of Water~Stone Review, published by Hamline University. The essay is called “People in Cars Outside the Coin Laundry,” and it’s only 300 words, so I’d call it flash nonfiction. The text isn’t online, but here’s the issue link. The editors at WSR were great! It’s a nice journal.
MFA Faculty Reading
On Saturday, November 12 at 6:00 p.m., I’ll be part of the University of Alaska Fairbanks MFA Faculty Reading. It’s being facilitated by the Fairbanks Arts Association. It’s taking place at the Bear Gallery in Pioneer Park (no remote broadcast). My colleagues Gerri Brightwell (Turnback Ridge) and Sara Eliza Johnson (Vapor) are celebrating the release of their new books, so Daryl Farmer and I will be keeping our readings brief.
